Two drugs to treat Covid-19 have been approved by the Ministry of Health and have specific instructions: Remdesivir and Molnupiravir.
The Covid-19 epidemic in our country is still extremely complicated, the Ministry of Health based on the actual situation as well as international experience, and continuously updates the treatment and drug regimens. Below are two drugs to treat Covid-19 that have been approved by the Ministry of Health and have specific instructions.
Regarding the distribution and use of the drug Remdesivir, on August 12, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son signed a document to the units, along with instructions on how to use this drug in the treatment of Covid-19. -19.
The New York Times reported that, to date, to treat Covid-19, Remdesivir is the first and only drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The drug is manufactured by Gilead Sciences under the brand name Veklury.
Initially, Remdesivir was tested to study drugs to treat Ebola and Hepatitis C, but the effectiveness was not evident at the time. By the time the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, researchers had discovered that the drug could prevent the reproduction of corona virus in cells. According to the results of a clinical trial, after using this drug, people hospitalized with Covid-19 had a recovery time from 15 to 11 days. And on October 22, 2020, Remdesivir was approved by the FDA for use in all Covid-19 patients 12 years of age and older.
However, many experts still say that there is no concrete evidence that Remdesivir actually prevents deaths from Covid-19. By February 2021, a global randomized trial had yielded more convincing results and now World Health Organization experts have concluded that Remdesivir has little or no effect on people with diabetes. infected with Covid-19.
In Vietnam, Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Unit of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Dr. Pham Van Phuc, said that the decision to put Remdesivir in the treatment of Covid-19 patients will help doctors have a choice. effective antiretroviral therapy for severe Covid-19 patients. However, the doctor also emphasized that the death rate has not been significantly improved when patients with Covid-19 take this drug. Therefore, Doctor Phuc said that the use of Remdesivir in critical patients also needs to be carefully considered.
Molnupiravir was formerly known as EIDD-2801 and is now also known as MK-4482, the New York Times reported. This is an antiviral drug that was originally developed to fight the flu. To date, the drug has been developed by Ridgeback Biotherapeutics and Merck as a way to help treat patients with Covid-19.
According to initial research done on human and animal lung cells, Molnupiravir can be taken in oral tablet form and brings positive results in the treatment of patients with Covid-19.
But Merck and Ridgeback announced in April that because the data did not show a significant effect in hospitalized patients, they would therefore be testing molnupiravir in non-hospital patients.
In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health and Ho Chi Minh City have coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City to implement a home-based care program – home-based care in English, for outpatient F0 cases from August 16. In particular, the health sector will use the drug Molnupiravir to distribute to F0 patients for treatment at home. Thus, in our country, Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality to pilot a home treatment program for asymptomatic F0s with moderate to mild conditions from August 16.
Accordingly, this group of F0 will be sampled by the authorities for testing at home and in the community; At the same time, they are provided with a number of health-promoting products, home-based care medicine boxes, along with support for counseling and health management in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic. At the same time, group F0 and family members are also provided with food packages to ensure social security, so that these people do not go out, to contribute to reducing the risk of spreading when there is no outside contact. community.
In addition, F0 patients treated at home will receive detailed instructions from the Ministry of Health for health monitoring, self-care, and contacting medical facilities in case of serious illness.
