Health experts said that if you get the first dose with a vaccine manufactured by Moderna, you can get the second dose with a vaccine manufactured by Pfizer and vice versa.
Currently, many people in Ho Chi Minh City are due to receive 2 doses of the Covid-19 Moderna vaccine, but currently the city has run out of this vaccine. In the Expanded Immunization Program “no longer in stock”.
Facing this situation, the Expert Advisory Council on Vaccine Use of the Ministry of Health on September 8, issued a recommendation on the application of two types of Covid-19 vaccines. Accordingly, in cases of force majeure – the 2nd injection schedule has been reached, the Covid-19 epidemic is stressful… but the supply of the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine is not enough for people to continue injecting. 2, other vaccines can be used instead.
Specifically, health experts said that people who received the first dose with a vaccine manufactured by Moderna can receive the second dose with a vaccine manufactured by Pfizer and vice versa. In addition, if the first dose is injected with the vaccine produced by AstraZeneca, the second dose can be injected with the vaccine manufactured by Moderna or Pfizer.
Regarding this issue, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Nguyen Hoai Nam, said Moderna vaccine is currently very limited. When conducting replacement vaccines, the health sector will select the most appropriate, most effective and safest vaccines for the people.
In all guidelines, Vietnam is currently using similar vaccines for people. In some countries, due to lack of vaccines, they also had to mix vaccines. And so far, the use of vaccines of the same type or mixed types together have brought good results, and no complications have been recorded.
Vietnam has so far received 5 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the US Government – divided into 2 phases and the Czech Government donated 40,000 doses. All of these vaccines have been distributed to localities to carry out vaccination.
