The compact wooden house called “Space of Mind” was developed in collaboration with the furniture brand Made By Choice and Puisto Studio, to adapt to the changes of the current world, providing space relaxation for those who are forced to spend a lot of time living and working from home.
A representative of Puisto Studio said that the idea of the development of their project is to create a remote refuge, without internet, separate from the hustle and bustle world to immerse in nature and feel the beauty of nature. The design team shared, Space of Mind is a modern wooden house that acts as a dedicated space for people to think, recharge and relax – a place where they can find peace. in mind – true to the name of the project. High flexibility and adaptability are great pluses, allowing you to experience it almost anywhere.
Space of Mind has a wooden structure, light weight and an area of only under 10m². They are prefabricated in the factory to save time and effort as well as ensure the house can be easily transported and erected in remote locations.
The house is clad in pine, larch, tar, and galvanized steel with vertical seams, while the base is made from removable twisted piers or lightweight concrete. This ensures the house can be adapted to different climates and ground conditions. Puisto Studio further explains: “We strategically planned the house to be light enough for crane or helicopter transport with a solid foundation that supports almost any location.”
The first Space of Mind cabin, installed with pine wood, is located on a ledge in the Porvoo Islands in Finland. The reason larch was chosen because its surface will gray over time, becoming in harmony with the surrounding environment. Studio Puisto will soon build more houses next door for the purpose of renting as a place to stay during the weekend or vacation.
The house’s angular form was developed to provide an “element of surprise” while retaining its compact, flexible form. Its roof overhang functions as a covered entrance. Space of Mind’s diverse interiors are also modular and attached to the main structure using wooden dowels. The designers describe their construction as a “jigsaw puzzle” with a modular system based on a simple lock and slot mechanism allowing for easy reconfiguration.
Space of Mind can be purchased with a separate dry toilet located near the house, along with an outside kitchen or storage unit next to the door.
