For any fashion brand, being able to design and supply Olympic athletes’ outfits is a huge opportunity to both improve the brand’s reputation and expand its exposure. Nike is no exception.
However, at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Nike no longer “fights” alone. The brand decided to combine with 3 hypebeast fashion brands to launch 3 limited collections. Those 3 brands are Off-White, Sacai, Undercover and Ambush. All collections feature Athleisure style that can be worn while exercising and perfect for walking around.
Nike’s limited collection to celebrate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Although they are all towards the Athleisure style, the 4 collections, each with a distinct color.
Nike x Sacai is a luxury collection. Sacai’s designer Chitose Abe said that he wanted to bring a collection to help the wearer exercise comfortably but at the same time luxurious enough to step out on the street.
Nike x Ambush has a Futuristic breath. Neon colors that simulate the sparkling lights of the magnificent Tokyo city cover this collection. Fashion designer Yoon Ahn said, “I want to play with fashion a little bit, go crazy. Isn’t that what makes fashion great.”
Nike x Undercover is a collection dedicated to basketball fans with baggy clothes. The Nike x Off-White takes you to the future with models created using CGI, an experience that is increasingly familiar during the pandemic.
The appearance of limited sneakers
A sports collection would be difficult to complete without sneakers. Nike’s hit Dunk High shoe, co-created by Ambush’s Yoon Ahn and Jun Takahasi from Undercover, breathed a new breath into the rigorous selection mindset of professional sneaker heads. Under the hands of Jun Tahakasi, the 1985 Dunk High shoe was renewed with a red and black body, and an impromptu painted sole.
Yoon Ahn has a more innovative look when he transforms the Dunk High shoe to remind him of the moto racing culture. Nike’s Swoosh logo is pulled out of the heel like a fire for people to walk forward.
Currently the collection is being sold on Nike’s website.
