1. A hostile relationship with Yves Saint Laurent
Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent were close friends before becoming rivals. The cause of the feud was not related to fashion, but was said to have arisen when both were passionately in love with a nobleman named Jacques de Bascher. However, Jacques chose to stay with Yves Saint Laurent. Too painful to be rejected, Karl could no longer continue his friendship with Laurent. From that point on, the two became enemies on all fronts.
Despite always having to handle a huge amount of work, Karl Lagerfeld rarely delegated work to others but always performed it himself. The “fashion king” personally drew each design draft, wrote the press release himself, and also controlled the stage in the performances himself.
3. Passion for interior design
Besides fashion, Karl Lagerfeld is also an extremely fond of interior design. He is the person involved in the design of the Estas tower, a massive structure located on Sunny Isles beach, Miami. However, when everything was only on the drawing board, the “silver-haired king” died suddenly.
4. Never allow fat models to appear on Chanel’s stage
Karl Lagerfeld is quite an extreme on the issue of women’s weight. He once criticized the overweight of singer Adele. He also never allowed models over size 2 to step on the Chanel catwalk. Despite being heavily criticized and even sued for extreme behavior and lack of humility, Karl still maintains his personal opinion.
5. A talented photographer
Karl is a great photographer. He has collaborated with famous brands such as Dom Perignon, Adidas, Coca Cola and Pirelli. He is also behind many covers of prestigious fashion magazines such as French, British, American Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Paris Match, V Magazine and Numero.
In addition, Karl has also directed several fashion films.
